Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs.” Proverbs 19:11 NLT

I have heard it said that anger comes from unmet expectations. Therefore controlling our temper wouldn’t come from controlling our actions, but rather controlling our expectations. One of those expectations that needs to be managed is that of expecting people to either behave perfectly, or at least like we want them to.

Thomas Kempis offered a thought about managing those expectations.

“Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.”

If we want to focus on change, we should start with our own lives and perhaps overlook the wrongs of others.

In His Hands,
