Love in Silence

“Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.”  Proverbs 17:28 NLT

Last week we talked about using a few careful words, this week the message is silence. It is foolish to keep talking with nothing to say, and wise to keep quiet. Please note the message is not absence, it is silence. To be present, but to be quiet.  There is a great deal that can be communicated in silence.

There is a song that came out a few years ago by Ronan Keating called “When you say nothing at all”.  The chorus lyrics express well how we can love in silence.

There’s a truth in your eyes saying you’ll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me wherever I fall
You say it best, when you say nothing at all

In the Bible the Psalmist writes:

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”   Psalms 34:18 NLT

Sometimes the Lord is close by placing us in proximity to each other. Sometimes His love comes not through words, but through human hearts, hands and hugs.

There are a few talented people who are able to offer comforting words, but all of us can offer comforting love in silence.

This week:

Lean in.  Listen.  Love.

In His Hands,

John
