“The person who strays from common sense will end up in the company of the dead.” Proverbs 21:16 NLT

If you have children or grandchildren who are busy at play in a pool or outside and you are seated nearby, you likely have heard the repeated request of “watch me, watch me” as the youth attempts some innocent exercise or feat of skill. I am not sure it has the same basis, but when an adult exclaims “Watch this!” it is frequently followed by the need for medical attention.

There are some things that are just not good to do or attempt.   Jim Croce’s lyrics from his famous song comes to mind:

“You don’t tug on superman’s cape
You don’t spit into the wind
You don’t pull the mask off that old lone ranger
And you don’t mess around with Jim”

I am not exactly sure who Jim was in the lyric, but you get the idea that messing with him was not sensible.  Of course this is a fictional account, but illustrates a biblical truth. Common sense is a gift of God that we would do well to pay attention to.  This week the caution is even more serious: “The person who strays from common sense will end up in the company of the dead.”  Proverbs 21:16 NLT.

Put more simply; we should think before we act.

This week pay attention to the practical, and use the common sense that God has given you, to ignore it could be deadly.

In His Hands,

John
