“The godly care about the rights of the poor; the wicked don’t care at all.”  Proverbs 29:7 NLT‬‬

Every once in a while, we all need a good reminder.  Life can happen we have different circumstances and priorities, even for good things, and we can find ourselves with our eyes on ourselves and inattentive to the needs around us.

Even the apostle Paul, arguably one of the great examples for us in the Bible of living for the Lord, was given the reminder by the other apostles.

“Only, they asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.” Gal 2:10 ESV

Eager to do it, but perhaps needed to be reminded.

This week’s verse suggest that our nature determines our passions.  When it comes to the poor, the godly care and the wicked don’t care at all.

Which are you?

In a world where money speaks loudly it is important to have those who are advocates for the poor.  The wicked know of no such concern for this as they see the poor as a perfect target for their abuse of power.  But God makes it clear that the righteous are very concerned for the poor.

I am amazed at the number of selfish schemes that try to take advantage of people.  There are wicked people who prey on the poor, the elderly, and the feeble.  The godly are not so, we care about the needs and the rights of the poor.

But every once in a while, it is good for us to be reminded. Remember the poor.

This week, remember the poor.

In His Hands,

John
