“Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes.” Proverbs 19:2 NLT
The flashy ad comes on, this is going to make my life so much better! QVC has built a whole TV channel and financial empire on flashy ads and impulse buys. The reality is that those things quickly go from “As seen on TV” to “As stuffed in the closet.” Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good. You might even term it Empty Enthusiasm. Sometimes pausing to learn more is extremely beneficial.
Haste makes mistakes. Or as the saying goes. Haste makes waste. It is likely that you have lived through the consequences of this truth. I know that I have often regretted hasty decisions. It should be noted that there is a difference between quick decisions and hasty ones. I can be trained to make quick decisions, (like avoiding an object in the road). Hasty decisions are those that are based on impulse not knowledge.
This is a timely verse for me, as I just finished reading “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” by John Mark Comer. I would highly recommend it. And I would highly recommend that you slow down a bit, become more thoughtful, and be present in every moment. And if you really need to rush into to something; rush into contentment.
