“Don’t trap yourself by making a rash promise to God and only later counting the cost.”
Proverbs 20:25 NLT

You hit the end of yourself, not knowing what to do, and maybe in desperation you cry out to God which is a good thing. But then perhaps in desperation, or trying to control the situation and  maybe in foolishness you say; Lord if only You would, then I would… Fill in the blanks.

God if you would do this, than I would do that.  You try to bargain with God.

The pattern goes something like this, God if you would only do what I want you to, then I would do something I don’t want to do but think it would please You. Somehow that logic assumes two things. One that God doesn’t want to do what we think He ought to, and two that somehow He would be pleased by us doing something that we don’t want to do.

Just say a simple, ‘Yes, I will,’ or ‘No, I won’t.’ Anything beyond this is from the evil one.
Matthew 5:37 NLT

God cannot be bribed. Let your yes be yes and your no, no. Do you think that by promising something outlandish you are going to somehow persuade Him?

God knows what is best for You, pursue Him and His will and trust Him with the details of your wants and needs.

In His Hands,

John
