Looking Towards Your Purpose

“The discerning sets his face toward wisdom, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.”  Proverbs 17:24 ESV

There are a few professional athletes that have been trained to look one way, but go another. But for the rest of us, we tend to follow the age old advise to “look where we are going”.  When I read this week’s verse about “sets his face towards wisdom“, I am reminded of another verse.

“When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem.”  Luke 9:51 ESV

This is not talking about travel. It is talking about purpose. Jesus set His face to go to Jerusalem. From this point on, Jesus would be navigating to Jerusalem to fulfill His purpose. There were many other things that He could be doing, but none more important. He would not be distracted nor detoured, He was headed to Jerusalem.

God has given each of us a purpose as well. Something He has given us to do, people He has placed around us, and gifts He has given us to express. The discerning person sets his face towards those purposes, it is the wise thing to do. It is the fool who gets distracted pursuing other things to the ends of the earth.

This week, as Jesus set His face towards Jerusalem, set your face toward your purpose.  Don’t be distracted and become a fool.

In His Hands,

John
