“Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions.” Proverbs 18:2 NLT
Who is a fool? Those who have no interest in understanding. Those that only want to air their own opinions.
Does anything come to mind when you read that description? I can’t help but to think of social media. There are lots of folks airing their own opinions, but seemingly few seeking to understand. The Bible calls those folks fools. If you spend any time reading posts or comments on social media it seems that one way or another you will wind up being stirred up. But stirred up to do what?
I am a lover of language, and I love to understand the meaning of words, terms and their application. One term that comes to mind is “stir up”, in English we call it an idiom. Webster says that it is an action “to cause someone to feel a strong emotion to do something.”
The Bible says that we are to “stir each other up to love and good works.” (Heb 10:24-25).Our culture now seems determined instead to stir each other up to irritation and anarchy. We can be stirred up for good or we can be stirred up for wrong. Which are you? Don’t be a fool and get caught in the trap of our culture.
This week don’t be a fool, let us be those who seek to understand and be those to stir others up to love and good works.
