“Hooray for law and order!”  I remember my father exclaiming as we sat in stalled traffic on a highway. We were frustrated by the delay, but sat lawfully waiting for the road to clear.  Then some others took to speeding through the grass to get around the law abiding vehicles. It went on for a little while and then the sirens came, ticketing the law breakers. 

 

“Hooray for law and order”, my father rejoiced in the presence of the authorities. The rule followers had joy, the rule breakers terror. 

 

Live in such a way that the authorities bring comfort and not terror. 

 

And what applies in the secular is even more important in the spiritual. Live in such a way that the presence of the Lord brings joy, not terror.
