“How much better to get wisdom than gold, and good judgment than silver!” Proverbs 16:16 NLT
Wisdom and judgment are better to desire than gold and silver. Gold and silver, or in our day, money is neither good or bad. It is our relationship with money that is important. The Bible says that it is not money that is the root of all evil, rather the love of money that is (1 Tim 6:3). When it comes to God, people and money it is relationship that is most important. And when our relationship with money is out of alignment our very souls are in jeopardy.
Jesus put it this way: “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?” Mark 8:36 NLT
I want to be clear it is not what we have that is the issue, but how it motivates us and how we use it.
The question we must ask ourselves is, am I using money or am I using people?
If we use money to love people, we will likely be blessed with both. If we use people to get money ultimately we will lose both.
What are you currently striving for? To get money or to love people? Loving people is the wise thing to do.
My prayer for this week is the same as the prayer of Paul for the church in Philippi.
“I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding.”
Philippians 1:9 NLT
