“God detests the prayers of a person who ignores the law. ” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭28:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“You can’t have your cake and eat it too.” I admit that growing up, I would often hear this saying but not really understanding what it meant. I interpreted it as you can’t have it both ways for a particular problem, and never gave it much thought beyond that. But the meaning goes a bit different. You can’t both physically have the cake before you and consume it. It simply doesn’t work that way.

In a similar way, you can’t live a life of disobedience and then pray and expect God’s blessing. It just doesn’t work that way. “God detests the prayers of a person who ignores the law.”

God blesses obedience and withholds His blessings from the disobedient. This is less about do this and get that, but more about you can’t have it both ways!

This week, be obedient to God’s commands and pray for His blessings,

In His Hands,

John
