“Those who love pleasure become poor; those who love wine and luxury will never be rich…The wise have wealth and luxury, but fools spend whatever they get.”
Proverbs 21:17&21 NLT

God has given us wonderful things to enjoy and we should. But when we become more attached to the gifts than to the giver, that is when danger begins to lurk and pleasure becomes evasive.  It isn’t that our desire for pleasure is too strong, but that it isn’t strong enough as we become content with lesser things.

Once again to quote CS Lewis:

“Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink, sex, ambition, when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” CS Lewis

If it is true lasting pleasure that You seek, seek the Lord and His presence.

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11 ESV

In His Hands,

John
