“Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and rich.” Proverbs 28:6 NLT
Is it better to be rich or to be poor? We might have a tendency to respond without hesitation, “why rich of course”. A clarifying question might be the wiser response.
“What is the cost?”
What is the cost to be rich? If it is dishonesty, theft, unethical, immoral or unloving actions or behavior; then the cost is too great. It would be better to be poor.
But poor in the world’s eyes, does not mean that you will go without, for God promises that He will provide what you need.
”And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 ESV
And the Psalmist proclaimed that God would care for the righteous.
“I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.” Psalm 37:25 ESV
God loves you and will care for you. Trust Him with all of your heart. He is trustworthy. Don’t fall into the temptation to be dishonest to try and gain advantage.
This week, seek to be above reproach in all of your dealings.
In His Hands,
John
